Types of Tests and Detection Times

The detection times will vary from substance to substance, person to person. There are a large number of factors that can affect the outcome of a urine sample including: amount of drug the user has ingested, duration since last ingestion, body weight, diet, exercise, hydration levels and purity of substance. The maximum detection times (such as 30 days for THC) are merely averages and suggestions. Individual results may vary.

Alcohol: Alcohol is a legal depressant found in fermented beverages including wine, beer and liquor – Due to rapid metabolization, alcohol has a very short detection time of 4-16 hours.

Benzodiazepines: Benzodiazepines are prescription pills for anxiety and depression. Common examples are Xanax, Valium, Librium, Klonopin, Rohypnol -Detection Time is 3 to 21 days.

Cocaine: Cocaine is the powdered alkaline of crushed coca leaves - Common examples are powdered cocaine and crack cocaine - Detection Time is 2 to 4 days.

Cotinine/Nicotine: Cotinine is the metabolite found in Nicotine and Tobacco – This will detect if a person has been smoking cigarettes, cigars or chewing tobacco – Detection time is 2-14 days.

MAMP - Methamphetamine: Methamphetamine is a synthetic amphetamine abused for its stimulant effects – Common names are meth, crystal and ice – detection time is 2-4 days

MDMA - Ecstasy: MDMA (Ecstasy) is a designer drug used in clubs and raves – often times Ecstasy contains other amphetamines or drugs in addition to MDMA –Detection time is 2-3 days.

OPI - Opiates: Opiates are narcotic depressants prescribed for pain management –Common examples are Heroin, Vicodin, Codeine, Morphine, Opium -Detection time is 2-3 days.

OXY - Oxycodone: Oxycodones are prescription synthetic opiates which require a more sensitive urine test than OPI – Common examples include Oxycontin, Percocet, Roxicodone and Percodan – Detection time is 2-3 days.

THC - Marijuana: THC (delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol) is the active component in Marijuana – Common examples include marijuana, hash, kief and medicinal edibles – Detection time is 3-120 days.

How Do Urine Drug Test Work?

When drugs are consumed, the human body absorbs and processes the different chemical components. The faint traces that remain in the urine, blood, hair and saliva are called drug metabolites. Each drug leaves it own unique metabolite “signature”, for instance Cocaine metabolizes into Benzoylecgonine and Nicotine metabolizes into Cotinine. Drug Testing strips are comprised of multiple layers of special fabric, each one coated with its Types of Drug Tests.

Urine Tests: Within the urine category drug testing there are 4 different types. Dip Panels, Urinary Cups and Simple Strips.

Blood Tests: Drug testing for blood requires special gas chromatometers and laboratory analysis. We do not sell any home drug testing kits for blood.

Hair Tests: Hair drug testing can detect traces of drug use farther back then a urine or saliva drug test. This is also one of the hardest methods of drug testing to cheat, as special shampoos can leave visible traces observable to the person administering the test.

Important Drug Testing Terms

510k Clearance: An FDA clearance indicating a medical device intent for home use. All of our drug tests have approved 510k Clearance.

CLIA Waived: The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) established quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure accuracy and reliability. If a home test is CLIA Waived then the medical device meets the same standards as a laboratory device. These are more expensive and are usually found packaged inside a box.

SAMSHA: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This is the federal program related to drug abuse. They have a standard 5 panel drug test used for all government employees, military, DOT Truckers and more. Commonly referred to as the SAMSHA 5 or NIDA 5, the test includes THC, COC, AMP, OPI and PCP.

NIDA: National Institute on Drug Abuse. Another federal institute studying the science of drug abuse and addiction. NIDA is the older, parent organization of SAMSHA.
